Alicia Colon - Hold Your Nose to Vote But For Goodness Sake, Don't Stay Home
As the days trickle down to a precious few before Election Day, I have become increasingly depressed by the comments I've read on several conservative forums. There are way too many conservatives expressing dissatisfaction with the GOP candidates running next month and in the possible lineup in 2016. They say before they vote for a RINO, they'd rather stay home.
There was a time when I would have admired their principled position but not this year. It is vitally important that the Republicans take over the Senate because the sad fact is that President Obama would never have been able to wreak havoc on this country without the hundreds of Democrat minions in Congress. In the two years plus left on his administration, he can continue to issue executive orders, appoint Marxist justices to circumvent the Constitution, diminish the military and continue to enjoy million-dollar taxpayer funded golfing vacations.
My brother Joe, who has terminal cancer, is visiting us for what may be the last time but what is most paramount on his mind is the terrible state of the nation. I have been trying to calm Joe down because the right frame of mind is necessary for him to fight his dreadful prognosis. Unfortunately, he is a former marine who has served his country well and he views the decline of America as a slap in the face and a mockery of the many years he spent doing his duty.
Joe says, "Obama hates the military and he hates the veterans and that goes for all the Democrats who carry out his orders. Look at the state of the VA hospital. Vets like me are given shoddy care and left to die while on the waiting lists for care. Look at the czars Obama put in charge of our lives. They were all commies and no one cared."
What really makes Joe's temper rise is reading the comments made by conservatives about the Republicans running for Congress. "Every single Republican candidate is better than any Democrat including all the RINOs. In 2008 and 2012, everyone running in the GOP primary was better than Obama. He's the biggest hoax played on this country in our history but I don't blame him completely because he was elected by fools." Joe and I are the only Republicans in our family and when I heard that he had a diagnosis of mucinous Aden carcinoma which had metastasized, I was heartbroken. This is a cancer with a very low survival rate and it pains me to see him get so agitated by the current crises due in large part by poor leadership.
Nevertheless I can't calm him down. "Did you know that the guy who started ISIS had been in Gitmo until Obama released him? What about that trade of five Taliban terrorists for that army deserter? Did anybody ask why Ambassador Stevens was even in Benghazi? Who's paying for all those Democrat fundraisers that Obama is flying to around the country on Air Force One? The taxpayers? Why not the DNC? What about the Ebola epidemic? Did you know that instead of spending money to find a vaccine for it, we spent billions on silly research like finding out why lesbians are fat?"
In 2004, the rallying cry for Republicans was that they would crawl on broken glass to reelect George W. Bush and that attitude worked. We cannot allow the Democrats to continue their control over the Senate. The low-info voters (and they are legion) do not watch Fox News, nor do they read the Weekly Standard or National Review; nor do they log onto the Breitbart.com sites. They have no interest in the Benghazi or IRS congressional hearings. We no longer can expect a Ronald Reagan to come out of the shadows to explain how dire our circumstances are.
About the only thing that will open their eyes will be a concrete disaster that affects them. Ebola could be that eye-opener except that the Democrats are trying to spin the lie that the Republican budget cuts are responsible for the CDC not having an available vaccine ready for the crisis. This blatant lie is being spread by the mainstream media lapdogs.
It takes the press in the U.K. to expose where the National Health Institute spent the money it should have spent for disease prevention. The Daily Mail's David Martosko wrote:
"The NIH budget included $2.4 million for a new condom design whose inventor is now being investigated for fraud; Another $939,000 taught scientists that male fruit flies prefer younger females; $257,000 went to create a companion website for first lady Michelle Obama's White House garden; It cost $592,000 to determine that chimpanzees with the best poop-flinging skills are also the best communicators, and another $117,000 to learn that most chimps are right-handed."
Ebola is not the only epidemic threatening us. Our children are being exposed by this rare virus, EV-D68, which has caused one death in New Jersey and is paralyzing and hospitalizing hundreds around the country. It has been alleged that this virus was brought into the country by the thousands of illegals from Central America allowed here by the Obama administration.
Joe and I aren't the only ones concerned with those who plan to sit out the next election. Jim Geraghty of National Review wrote a column, "God Save Us from the Loud 'I'm Staying Home This Year' Conservatives." The column is a series of tweets that I completely agree with:
"G0D save us from self-professed "conservatives" who will announce they'll stay home on Election Day as a demonstration of their power." "This is not a demonstration of principle. This is quitting, and not wanting to call it quitting."
"I don't understand the "I've never been more fearful for the future of this country, but I'm not willing to do anything about it" mentality."
Joe is right when he says, "We can't afford not to vote. We must go to the polls in such numbers that voter fraud will not have an impact on the races. All the Christians, all the Jews, all the people of faith need to get out to take back America. They cannot afford to stay home. We outnumber the ones destroying our nation but not if we stay home. Get out the vote, Republicans. "
As I pray for my brother in his battle with cancer, I'll also be praying just as hard for our country on Election Day.
